What metal tracks do in a framing system
EBS Global, headquartered in Barrie, Ontario, manufactures metal tracks for framing walls, ceilings and partitions.
Metal tracks are the horizontal channels that support and secure the vertical metal studs. They are the base of a wall or partition, and they keep it aligned and strong.
What metal tracks bring to a framing system
- Alignment. Tracks guide the placement of the studs, so walls come out straight. That means fewer installation errors and a better finish.
- Stability. Tracks anchor the studs, which makes the structure more resistant to movement and environmental stress.
- Fire performance. Unlike wood framing, metal tracks are non-combustible.
- Flexibility. Electrical wiring or HVAC ducts can be added later without weakening the structure.
EBS Global metal tracks
Our tracks are made from galvanized steel, which resists corrosion even in humid conditions. They are manufactured to exact specifications, so quality is consistent and they fit standard metal studs.
We make tracks in a range of web sizes, from light interior partitions to load-bearing walls, and our team can produce custom tracks for a project.
Installing metal tracks
Prepare the surface first: the floor and ceiling should be clean and level. Mark the track position with a chalk line.
Fasten the tracks to the floor and ceiling with screws or anchors. Screws for metal studs suit light partitions, and heavier tracks may need anchors. Slide the studs into the tracks and fix them with screws made for metal-to-metal connections. Before building the rest of the wall, check with a level that tracks and studs are exactly horizontal and vertical.
