Prefabricated steel building panels, explained

EBS Global, based in Barrie, Ontario, makes prefabricated steel building panels. This article explains what they are and how they save time, cost and material.

What they are

Prefabricated steel building panels are pre-engineered sections of wall, floor or roof made from lightweight steel. They are manufactured off site in a controlled environment, then transported to the construction site and assembled.

There are three types:

  • Wall panels. Can include insulation and cladding, so they provide structure and thermal performance together.
  • Roof panels. Designed for extreme weather and quick installation.
  • Floor panels. Carry the floors of multi-storey and industrial buildings.

We customize panels to the project, from houses to large commercial buildings.

Time and cost

Faster construction. Panels are made in the factory while the site is being prepared, which shortens the overall project.

Lower labour costs. Panels arrive ready to assemble, so fewer workers are needed on site and there are fewer errors.

Less material waste. Accurate manufacturing wastes less than traditional construction, which lowers cost.

Sustainability

Energy efficiency. Prefabricated steel panels are often insulated, which lowers the energy used for heating and cooling.

Recyclability. Steel is one of the most recyclable materials in the world. At the end of a building's life the panels can be dismantled and reused or recycled.

Lower carbon footprint. Making panels off site reduces transport and on-site emissions.
